Rubber Duck Arrives

On Tuesday we witnessed something unexpected - A Rainbow over Hong Kong Island.  Lately, it's been a bit gloomy here.  But this storm brought a rainbow.

This week Honk Kong celebrated Labour Day on Wednesday.  We celebrated by not labouring.  (Well, Patrick worked 1/2 a day).  We didn't travel far, but ventured around the neighborhood again.

We found a new restaurant - The Squirrel Coffee and Kitchen - for a late lunch (super late breakfast).

We both had Eggs Benedict with a pot of tea.
After lunch we found out way to Mongkok and found a new point and shoot camera.  Gwen's old one bit the dust, and we needed something to fill the gap between the SLR and the iPhone.  We will be using this to take pictures of Bangkok on our bicycle tour in 2 weeks.

Friday, we started the weekend off with a Corona at an really good Italian joint we found called Fat Angelo's.  We had ordered pizza from them before, but it was even better at the restaurant.

Saturday Gwen went exploring Mongkok looking for yarn stores.  She found 2 more stores and added to her yarn stash.

Double Knitting - 179 Fa Yuen Street 1/F.  They had a decent amount of inventory - a lot of Acrylic.   I will come back here for yarn for the next baby - who's next??.  One lady did speak English, and I ended up with some Cotton Perle yarn.

Here are the pictures I took to help me find this store again.

Second store was 2 blocks away.

Kilo Filo - 167 Sai Yee Street.  This was definitely a much higher end store.  About 90% of their inventory was 100% wool.  I did find some nice wool from South Korea - again don't know what I will make yet, but could not resist.  AND another lady spoke English here also :)

On my walk to the taxi queue I passed what became a theme in Hong Kong this week.   Rubber Duckies.

Rubber Duckies
On Thursday, a 6 story (16.5 meter) tall Rubber Duck arrived in the Hong Kong harbour.  Sunday afternoon we went to see "The Duck" along with most of Hong Kong.
View from the waterfront promonade.

Best pictures - holding camera above the crowd.

Gwen found the way up to the parking deck to look down on the duck.

The duck watching the crowds checking him out.

There were smaller ducks the kids were able to pose on.

Last view of the duck from the bus.
Since we were in Harbour City already we decided to have a burger for lunch at BLT Burger.   Since moving over here, we have a different perspective on the English language and American sayings.  I saw "Tip Waiters Not Cows" on the back of a server's shirt.  I have to wonder how that translates into Cantonese....    Patrick wanted to know if he went to Clemson :)
