Seoul - August 2013

My second stop on this 5 week tour was in Seoul for 18 days.  I fell in love even more with the city, and became a little more local.

View of the city from my hotel room.

As I was walking the neighborhood the first day I found this restaurant - which we later tried. It was not "premium"

1st dinner in Seoul was at Mad for Garlic - yes that is a whole head of garlic on top of the steak.

Here's Steph and me with our beer at the Beer Factory.

My Cajun Chicken Salad at the Beer Factory - yes that is a Banana on my salad, and they missed the Cajun seasoning.

More Mexican - tacos and chips for lunch.
Dinner this night we walked to Gangnam - very close to the office.

Helen and I tasting our beer samples.

Training Team in Gangnam.
It is not full trip to Korea without Kimchi & Bibimbap.

My Bibimbap for lunch.

Krazy Burger for a quick dinner one night.

Vietnamese Dinner - our beers came with hats.
Friday night dinner - BBQ with the team.

After BBQ came beer.

Beer selection was in the table.

Our empty collection.
Saturday Michael, Raj and I went to the Korean National Museum with Helen and her daughter Jimin.

Taxi ride.

Flower in my hair from Jimin.
Dinner in Itaiwan.

Waiting for our food.
Another Mexican lunch
Another BBQ dinner with the team.  Helen described this restaurant as "Lip Smashing" good, and that is how we labeled it in our expense report.

Michael cutting the steak with scissors - common way of cutting food in Seoul.

Helen cooking the last of our beef for the evening.
Lunch with the team celebrating Chris's birthday was at a good Italian restaurant.

Cute wall decoration.

Tree in the restaurant with bread hanging from the branches.
Michael's last night with the team before heading back to the US was spent at Din Tai Fung.

In Korean resturants it is very common for there to be a door bell on the table to ring for service.  Michael had the honor of ringing the bell to place our order.

Korea celebrated their Independence Day on Thursday, Aug 15th - day off.  I went venturing out to find a yarn store I read about in other blogs.

21 stops away on the subway and a block walk I found Banul.  Banul is Korean for Needle.

Jute / Acrylic yarn I bought - not sure what I will do with it yet.
On my way back to the hotel I stopped in a shopping district, but found myself in the middle of either a celebration or a protest - not sure which.  Looked like a parade, but there were a lot of police.  Decided to go back into the subway and head home.

Police barricade.

Map in the subway telling me where I was.
Friday Happy Hour - Helen took the team for Fried Chicken & Beer - traditional HH.

Big Beer

It would not be a trip to Korea without visiting a Cafe Pascucci and sending a picture to my friends Bob & Wendy Pascucci.
On Saturday Stephanie and I visited Gyeongbokgung Palace with her friends Susanne and Jay.  Construction started in 1395 and the name means Palace Greatly Blessed by the Heavens.  Many dynasties occupied this space, and it was burnt many times and rebuilt. Here are photos of the grounds.

After the Palace was dinner.

Traditional Korean Wine.

Stephanie & Jay with Makgeolli.

Susanne and me with the Makgeolli.

Onion salad - we know how much I ate.

Makgeolli

It was a lot of food - Stephanie's expression says it all.

Mango dessert.
Sunday Stephanie and I became true locals - we got our hair cut.

Lucy Hair was where we went after a great deal of research.

We were both very happy with the results and are considering going back in 2 months when we return.

Soft Tofu lunch.
After lunch we walked around the neighborhood and walked to the next subway stop.  Along the way we found the yarn store I was at on Thursday.

A scarf I found and would love to find the pattern for.
 Another Schezwan meal.

Chili Ice Cream
Last meal in Seoul was Japanese with a few team members.

Frozen beer we had a long wait for.

Cheering the end of our time in Seoul with Frozen Beer.
Next Stop New Delhi, India.
